In the Zhu lab, we are interested in understanding normal and abnormal brain functions by deciphering neuronal circuits and analyzing the morphological, biophysical and synaptic properties of the interconnected neurons. To accomplish this, we have developed methods that combine cell and molecular biological techniques with novel optical approaches and multiple simultaneous whole-cell recordings. Using these methods, I am currently examining how different types of interneurons participate in cortical functions and dysfunctions.
