Herpes simplex virus-1 (HSV-1) is characterized by its ability to infect and establish prolonged latency within neurons of the peripheral nervous system. This latent status allows the virus to sporadically and productively reactivate throughout the lifetime of the host. My research aims to understand the cellular mechanisms that permit or support HSV-1 reactivation in neurons. Specifically, I am investigating how HSV-1 interacts with innate immune signaling pathways in neurons and the contribution of this interplay to reactivation.
